Three years ago I was invited to French Nordic cultural festival Les Boréales in Caen. My program included a dinner with readers of my books. TV was there, the discussion was lively and I did my best with my school French, sending warm thoughts to my French teacher Siv Bengtsson and all that she once taught me.
After a while I was almost fainting for lack of words but was rescued by one of the guests, Isabelle. She translated for me, spoke perfect English and later drove me to the hotel, where we took a glass of wine and talked about creativity.
Today Isabelle Chéreau is working on a documentary film about me, my books and writing The Scarred Pianist. The title of the film is Residence(s). Just showing that you never know what meeting a stranger might lead to.
